Learning at Dalton X doesn't stop at the classroom door — it opens outward, from Iwate, where the school calls home, to Tokyo, Keihanna, Naruto, Okinawa, and as far as India, Malaysia, and Estonia, with regional hubs across Iwate itself in Ichinoseki, Hachimantai, Iwate Town, and Kamaishi. In every place, someone worth meeting — a mayor rebuilding a local economy, a researcher chasing an unasked question — offers an encounter that no syllabus could script, and that's what pulls a question loose from the textbook and makes it real.

Long stays with real inquiry

Students stay in each regional hub either short-term, 1-2 weeks, or long-term such as three months — long enough to stop being a visitor and start seeing a community's problems as real. They meet those problems with everything they've got, ask sharper questions for it, and push toward real solutions.

We place great importance on helping each student develop the ability to "design" their own learning, "deepen and broaden" their understanding through lessons and project based activities, and engage in discussions and empathize with one another by "sharing" what they have learned.

Real learning offline, and an online system that makes distance disappear — connecting main campus and branch locations so learning support feels personal no matter where you are.

Compatible with International Curricula

In addition to Japanese curriculum (MEXT curriculum), we offer two international tracks in which subjects such as science, math, and history are taught in English, Minerva Baccalaureate Program (MBacc) and International A-level. This program, in which nearly all classes are conducted in English, is designed to prepare students for admission to universities around the world, including those in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Asia.

We also offer a variety of support services for students aiming to attend universities abroad, including courses to prepare for the IELTS exam required for admission to universities both in Japan and overseas.

What Is the Minerva Baccalaureate?

How can we help students develop into leaders, innovators and adaptive learners? The Minerva Baccalaureate (MBacc) is a high school diploma program developed by the Minerva Project to answer this very question. Rather than focusing on exam preparation and information transmission, the curriculum is built around developing four core competencies: critical thinking, creative thinking, effective communication and effective interactions, each of which are tightly integrated into the curriculum from the very outset. There are no in-class lectures in the MBacc program. Instead, valuable and limited class time shifts from mere information transmission to helping students actually learn to use and develop the above core competencies in small, highly engaging classes in what the MBacc calls "fully active learning". This highly innovative program enhances critical thinking, creativity, communication skills and the ability to collaborate, while fostering the initiative, inquisitiveness and logical thinking required by universities both in Japan and abroad. The goal with the MBacc program isn't just to "know things"; it's to become someone who can "figure things out".

What is the International A-Level?

The International A-Level is an international curriculum widely recognised by universities in the UK and around the world. Students select specialized subjects in line with their interests and career aspirations, and study advanced academic content with a view to progressing to university. By exploring a small number of subjects in depth, they develop not only specialist knowledge but also logical thinking and analytical skills. The A-Level qualifications they obtain are widely regarded as the global standard by universities both here in Japan and worldwide. This program emphasises specialization and academic rigor, allowing students to build a solid foundation supporting their progression to higher education and future success on the global stage.

Expected Paths for Students

Domestic Universities (Comprehensive selection)

Students choose a university and major once they have a clear sense of what they want to pursue. Drawing on their accumulated experience in project based learning as a real strength, they articulate their reasons for applying in their own words — and aim to gain admission through the comprehensive selection process.
Domestic Universities (Exam-based selection)

From day one, students build a strong academic foundation — one sharpened further by the logical thinking and problem-solving skills project based learning develops, resulting in rigor subject knowledge and academic skills to go through the exam-based selection process for written exams.
Overseas Universities

Starting in the first year, we support students on the path to overseas university admission by building on real experience learning in English — classes taught by native speakers in select subjects, a curriculum aligned with international standards, project based activities abroad — and by deepening the interests that experience uncovers.
Vocational Schools, Entrepreneurship and More

Across three years, we support students on whichever path is genuinely theirs — the ones who want to build a business around their passion right after graduation, without waiting for some distant "someday," and the ones who want to go deep in a specific field of expertise instead.

First- and third-year students live and learn at the Ichinoseki Campus in Iwate and the Tokyo Campus (TOKYO NTT BASE). Second-year students live and learn at regional research locations instead. A boarding coordinator is stationed at each dormitory to support students throughout their stay.

Main Campuses (1st and 3rd Years)

In their first and third years, students split their time evenly between two campuses - six months deepening their studies at the Ichinoseki Campus in Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture, and six months at TOKYO NTT BASE in Chofu City, Tokyo.

Ichinoseki Campus

Iwate Prefecture, home to the Ichinoseki Campus, is living the future the rest of Japan is only beginning to face - a declining birthrate, an aging population, a shrinking population, and the long work of rebuilding after disaster. That's not a burden for project based learning. It's raw material.

Ichinoseki City itself sits at the center of the Tohoku region, where the National Institute of Technology, Ichinoseki College, alongside research institutions, businesses, and local government, have built what's known as the Ichinoseki Knowledge Hub - a place where these different worlds actually work together.

And the campus itself sits somewhere quieter: wide sky, open countryside, room to think.

Ichinoseki Campus Dormitory

The dormitory, located about a 10-minute bike ride away, accommodates two to three students per room. It is divided into separate dorms for male and female students, and each room is equipped with a bathroom and toilet. There is also a dining hall on the premises. A boarding coordinator is always on duty in the dormitory.

Tokyo Campus (TOKYO NTT BASE)

Classrooms and dormitories will be established at the NTT Central Training Institute, operated by NTT East Japan - a company with which the Kawaijuku Group holds a partnership agreement. The Institute is also home to "e-City Labo," NTT East Group's demonstration field for building a regionally circular, sustainable society. We plan to deepen this collaboration, bringing students learning opportunities in cutting-edge technology and data science.

Tokyo Campus (TOKYO NTT BASE) Dormitory

Located in the accommodation building of the NTT Central Training Institute, the dormitory is a 3-minute walk from the classrooms, set within a quiet residential neighborhood. Male and female students are housed in separate areas, with each room shared by two students and equipped with its own shower. The building also includes a communal dining hall and a large public bath, and a boarding coordinator is on duty at all times.
